Tomographic images of tree trunks generated using ultrasound and post-processed images: Influence of the number of measurement points

Tomography is a technique increasingly used in tree inspections. This can be performed two stages: field testing and postimage processing. To feed the tomographic image construction software, it necessary to adopt measurement grid composed of points positioned on perimeter stem. The images are generated through spatial interpolation algorithms. From theoretical point view, more taken stem result better results. However, an increase number mesh causes substantial work processing time. general objective this study was verify influence diffraction ultrasound tomography For purpose, ten simulated discs were used, all 500 mm diameter with different defects terms size, position, geometry.
